Aberdona House enjoys a quiet and rural location, yet it is centrally located for travel from Edinburgh or Glasgow (35 miles from each). It is located near the historic cities of Stirling (about 10 miles) and Dunfermline (about 14 miles), and the closest town is Alloa (about 5 miles).
Most directions: The key place to reach is Forestmill, which is a small collection of farms and houses on A977. Forestmill is also easily idenitifiable by Google maps and Satnavs (unlike our house). It can be reached from Edinburgh by M9 and M876 and from Glasgow by M80 and M876. Follow M876/A876 through Clackmannanshire Bridge and then turn onto A977 direction Perth (signposted M90/A977). In Forestmill, pass the Loganlea Cafe on your right and turn left after farm buildings on your left. This turn is clearly signposted Aberdona-Aberdona Gallery.
Follow the road for about 1km (900m) and then turn first left (again clearly signposted Aberdona-Aberdona Gallery). Follow the road for about 800m, past the Gallery sign on your right. Turn first left again, into a small lane - it is easy to miss this turn, so please drive slowly!
Approaching a small white house turn left just before it and continue on a track through the woods. After about 100m you reach Aberdona House.
Remember, from Forestmill there are four first turns left!
Stirling: Starting from Stirling, you might want to take a different route. Exit Stirling by A907, signposted Alloa. Continue straight through the big roundabout (where A91 crosses A907) and again through another one. At the next roundabout take the second exit straight onto B9140 (signposted Fishcross/Glenochil). Continue through two roundabouts, past the HMP Glenochil Prison, then through Fishcross (another roundabout) and Coalsnaughton. After leaving Coalsnaughton drive for less than 1km and you will see farm buildings in the open fields on your left. Just after farm buildings there is a junction where you should turn right. The turn is signposted Aberdona and Aberdona Gallery and there are signs limiting the traffic of heavy vehicles. However, many drivers miss this turn, so you need to be very careful!
Follow the road for about 300m as it sharply turns left and then right, passing underneath two power lines, you will see farm buildings in a distance on a hill - slow down at this point! - and a small white house (Aberdona Lodge) to your right. Turn right into a small lane towards the Lodge. Approaching a small white house turn left and continue on a track through the woods. After about 100m you reach Aberdona House.
Google Earth location can be found here. For Google maps, use the postcode FK10 3QP. You can also see an aerial picture of the house and its location, courtesy of Google Maps.
Google maps and GPS erronously point to Aberdona Gallery, rather than to Aberdona House, even when the correct address is entered. If you end up at the Gallery, go back to the main road, turn right and after 200m turn left in the direction of the Lodge.
There is no easy way to reach us without a car. The nearest train station is Alloa, reachable from Stirling which in turn is on the main line from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunblane and Aberdeen/Inverness. Once in Stirling or Alloa, give us a ring and we can come and collect you. Failing all, take the bus (62/63) from Stirling/Alloa to Coalsnaughton and walk along B9140 direction Kinross, turning right at the T-junction and then right again to the Lodge. There is no bus coming nearer to our place.
